Lead By Example

What does "Lead by Example" mean to you?

Smallbusiness.chron.com says "Leadership is the process by which one individual influences the behaviors, attitudes and thoughts of others. Leaders set the direction by helping others see what lies ahead and rising to the challenges. They see everyone’s potential and encourage and inspire those around them."

Ehow explains it this way, "Leading by example is one of the strongest ways you can show your dedication to your company, your department or your team. As a leader you can say whatever you want, but the actions that you take show who you are."

My favorite quote is "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." by Gandhi.

That is what Lead by Example means to me.  If I want to change something, I start with myself.  I can change the way I think about a situation.  It means treating others as you want to be treated.  Lead by Example to me means using words and backing up those words with action.

On Friday night of the IFBWC convention we heard a great speaker from the SIU Carbondale Women's Empowerment League speak.  She talked about what the organization is doing to make a change on campus and in their community.  They are making policy changes for victim's rights in rape and hate crimes on campus.  This is a group of Leaders.  They are talking the talk and walking the walk.

Let's be the Leaders of action.  Let's make a change in our lives and the lives of others by doing, not just talking.

In the comments below tell me what Lead by Example means to you and how you lead by example.
